Carthage Parks - General Info

There are a number of parks in Carthage. (see here for info. Most fall under the control of the Carthage Park District. These are:

  • Jaycee Park. Located just west of Methode on the west edge of town off Hwy 136, the Jaycee Park begins the beautiful drive around the lake road. There are 3 large shelter houses and a large playground at this park.

  • Carthage Swimming Pool. Just across the street from the Jaycee Park is the hub of all youth activities during the hot summer months, the swimming pool! Season tickets are available, as are swim lessons, private parties, and general swim times.

  • Joe Grate Sports Complex. The baseball, softball, and soccer activities of Carthage take place at "the ball diamonds" just north of the old college campus on the NE corner of Carthage. Featuring 3 ball diamonds and a large concession stand, families of all age groups spend time at the park during the spring and summer months of baseball/softball, and during the fall soccer season.

  • William's Park. The park isn't really a recreational area anymore. Located behind and around City Hall and the Kibbee Museum, it's now home to the veterns' memorial.

Also, there is another park built by a private organization in 1994, known as "the World of Wonders Park", or simply as "WOW". It consists of about $50,000 worth of playground quality wood in a maze/swing/play area that you have to see to believe. Restrooms are on site, and soon there will also be a pavilion for picnics. This park is located 1 block south of the square on Adams Street (just 1 block north of the hospital).

Why isn't the WOW park--part of the park district?
