Come hear gorgeous new works for harp, oboe, mezzo-soprano, and piano by local composer Whitney Ashe and New York composer Douglas Fisk. Local musicians Claire Happel Ashe and Ashlee Mack will perform alongside visiting musicians Karisa Antonio (MI) and Liz Pearse (MN) in this free concert for area residents.
The performance will feature four works: Fisk’s Sonnets and Interludes for harp, oboe, and mezzo-soprano based on text from Rainer Maria Rilke’s Sonnets to Orpheus; Queens Etudes, a work for harp and oboe challenging the boundaries of each instrument; Slow Clock for oboe and harp by Whitney Ashe; and Four Passages, a world premiere by Whitney Ashe for piano and mezzo-soprano based on text from The Peregrine by J.A. Baker.
The concert is partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency and co-organized by the Carthage Public Library.
